My Top 10 Reads of 2019

I love romance and obviously it’s my favorite genre to write, but I love to read it as well. I’ve been a reader my whole life, but I was very late to the game on reading romance which I have rectified since opening my first romance novel. It’s safe to say that I am in love with love. That’s why the majority of the books on my top 10 favorite reads of 2019 are in the romance genre!

I don’t get to read as much as I used to. Little know tidbit, before I started publishing I was a blogger and ran my own review blog. I did that for about a year and in that time period, I was reading as many as 15 books a month! Nowadays, I’m lucky if I read 50 books in a year, but even then I read enough to find some gems in the mix!

I’ve compiled a list of the Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2019. Some of these might be ones you’ve already read, but maybe you’ll find a new favorite author in the mix! The following list is in alphabetical order by title, no ranking here as I loved them all!

Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2019 - The Beginning and the End of Everything by Stevie J. Cole and Lauren LovellThe Beginning and the End of Everything by Stevie J. Cole & Lauren Lovell

This was my first book from both Stevie J. Cole and Lauren Lovell, but it won’t be my last. I went into this book completely blind. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I loved this cover and had to know what was on the inside. Let me tell you, you’re going to want some tissues with this one. It was real, raw, and heartbreakingly beautiful.

If you’re looking for a traditional HEA then this probably isn’t going to be the book for you. But if that doesn’t bother you, give this one a chance!

Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2019 - Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

This is the only non-fiction novel on my list this year, but man did it really hit me and change my perspective. Elizabeth Gilbert is the #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of the novel Eat Pray Love. I’ll be honest, I’ve never read that book or watched the movie so I had no prior knowledge or opinions of the author going into this novel. It’s no secret that I’m a little woo woo and love all things personal development and spirituality. Reading this book written by an author about the woo side of writing was fascinating. The story she mentioned about the book she was writing based in the Amazon still has stuck with me nearly six months after reading this book.

Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2019 - Broken Knight by L.J. ShenBroken Knight by L.J. Shen

I am always a sucker for an L.J. Shen book. I was late to the party and didn’t read my first novel from her until 2017, but I rectified that immediately and binged everything she’s ever written. Now I have to wait like everyone else, haha!

I absolutely love the Sinners of Saint series, so of course, I am just as obsessed with reading the novels about the OG hot holes children. And oh man does L.J. bring all of the angst we all love and know from her in Broken Knight. I loved Pretty Reckless, which I also read this year, but Broken Knight wrecked me. It was emotional and beautiful. Trust me when I say you’ll want to have your tissues handy. Available in Kindle Unlimited!

Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2019 - Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins ReidDaisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This book! Holy crap! Where do I even begin?

Seriously, it is just that good! I’ll be honest, when I first started it I immediately went to Google to research this band. I truly thought this was a non-fiction novel the story felt so real. Normally I don’t listen to fiction on audio, but with this one, I had to! Trust me, if you haven’t read it yet just get the audio. You’ll thank me later 😉 My husband heard snippets because I like listening to audiobooks when I’m getting ready and he’s equally as excited as I am for the mini-series that is supposed to be adapted by Reese Witherspoon’s production company!

Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2019 - Filthy Rich Boys by C.M. StunichFilthy Rich Boys by C.M. Stunich

This is the first book in the Rich Boys of Burberry Prep series, but honestly, this spot belongs to the entire series. I ventured out this year and picked up books from a lot of new to me authors and most of them landed on this list!

Filthy Rich Boys was my introduction to academy/prep romances as well as reverse harem. If you haven’t ventured into either of those tropes, I definitely suggest starting here! There’s bullying, angst, and everything else you can hope for in a teen drama wrapped in this gorgeous package. Seriously I love all of the covers for the books in this series.

Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2019 - The Moth and the Flame by B.B. ReidThe Moth and the Flame by B.B. Reid

This is the second book in B.B. Reid’s When Rivals Play series, but they can all be read as standalones. I’ve always loved a bad boy in my love stories even when I was younger. Anyone else more of a Shawn Hunter than Corey Matthews fan? It must have been that leather jacket 😉

The thing about bad boys is they’re dangerous, mysterious, but man do they love hard and fierce. Wren is all of that and more. His relationship Lou is intense and all he wants is to protect her from harm.

Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2019 - From Sand and Ash by Amy HarmonFrom Sand and Ash by Amy Harmon

Is it possible for Amy Harmon to write a bad book? I seriously don’t think so, every word she writes is like poetry and I devour every single word as soon as I can get my hands on them.

I went into this book completely blind and I am so incredibly happy I did. It was so beautifully written and I felt the intensity of each character’s emotions. The subject matter wasn’t an easy one to write about, but Amy Harmon does it so well. Just a word of warning, have your tissues handy with this one!

Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2019 - Shunned by Steffanie HolmesShunned by Steffanie Holmes

Oh my gosh, the addiction with this series is real. I’ve never read anything by this author before, but I’m excited to see what else she has up her sleeve. The blurb hooked me with HP Lovecraft meets Cruel Intentions. I mean, c’mon. So good!

There were so many twists and turns to the plot of this series and I’m dying for the last book to be released so I can finally find out how it ends! Like Filthy Rich Boys, Shunned is another Academy, Bully, Reverse Harem romance series, but this one is paranormal.

Top 10 Favorite Reads of 2019 - In the Unlikely Event by L.J. ShenIn the Unlikely Event by L.J. Shen

Another smoking hot L.J. Shen man and this time he’s Irish! I’ve always told my husband the only thing he’s missing is a good Irish accent, haha. Just like any good L.J. novel, there was drama and angst aplenty with In The Unlikely Event. I seriously had no idea what to expect, but I was so incredibly happy with the direction it took.

Malachy Doherty is downright swoon-worthy and I loved how nothing could keep these two apart.

What the Wind Knows by Amy HarmonTop 10 Favorite Reads of 2019 - What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon

My last and final book on this list is another one from Amy Harmon and surprise surprise another Irish man! Oh my gosh, this book. I was sucked in from the beginning and I could not put it down.

Time Travel + Ireland + Deep Love = Absolute Perfection

If you’re a fan of Outlander at all, I highly suggest reading What the Wind Knows. It gave me all the feels and vibes that I get from one of my favorite TV shows!
